Lip filler is a shaping treatment, not a size treatment
Lip enhancement uses a soft hyaluronic-acid filler to define the border, restore hydration and balance the shape of the lips. The change is visible immediately and settles over about two weeks as swelling resolves.
Most patients who ask for lip filler do not want larger lips. They want the definition that has faded, an upper lip that no longer disappears when they smile, or two lips that balance each other. Those are shape problems, and they are solved by where the product goes rather than how much of it is used.
We treat lips conservatively and in stages. A first appointment usually uses a small amount, reviewed at two weeks, with the option to add. Our own lip cases are photographed in the office and shown in the gallery so you can see the range before you decide.

Consultation
We look at your lips at rest and in movement, and talk about what you want to change in your own words rather than by reference to a photograph.

Numbing
Topical anaesthetic, and a dental block where you prefer it. Most lip filler also contains lidocaine.

Placement
Product is placed for border, body or hydration depending on the goal. First appointments are deliberately conservative.

Two-week review
Swelling resolves and the real shape appears. We review, and add a small amount only if the result asks for it.
What Lip Filler Can And Cannot Do
Three honest limits

It shapes, it does not lift
Filler can define and balance, but it will not lift heavily descended tissue. If that is the concern, we will say so.

Lines around the mouth need more than filler
Etched perioral lines often respond better to resurfacing, or to a combination. See chemical peels and microneedling.

Swelling is not the result
Judging your lips at 48 hours is judging swelling. The two-week review is when decisions get made.
Questions
What patients ask about lip filler
How much swelling should I expect?
Expect noticeable swelling for one to three days, sometimes with mild bruising. Plan around events: book at least two weeks ahead of anything photographed.
Will it look obvious?
Not at the amounts we use for a first treatment. Conservative placement with a review is specifically how an obvious result is avoided.
How long does lip filler last?
Six to twelve months for most people. Lips move more than any other treated area, which is why they metabolise product faster than cheeks.
Can I have it dissolved?
Yes. Hyaluronic-acid filler can be dissolved with an enzyme if you dislike the result or want to start again.
Does it hurt?
It is uncomfortable rather than painful for most patients. Numbing cream is standard and a dental block is available.
What does it cost?
Pricing depends on the product and the amount used, and is given at the consultation before anything is scheduled.
