Step 01

Preparing for Sculptra Treatment

For one-week pre-treatment, avoid blood thinners like aspirin, NSAIDs, garlic, ginkgo, and vitamin E to minimize bruising risk. Never stop a prescribed medication without asking the prescriber first. Do not drink alcohol for 24 hours before and after to avoid additional swelling. Applying a numbing cream is optional and can be done 30 minutes before your appointment. Ensure you do not have any infections near the treatment area. Reschedule if you have a cold, virus, or active breakouts.

Step 02

During the Sculptra Treatment

Treatment time is estimated to be around 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the number of injection sites and the scale of the treated areas. Your provider will cleanse and numb the treatment areas as needed for your comfort, then place small amounts of Sculptra beneath the skin with a thin needle or cannula in an even pattern. Massage the treatment areas to evenly disperse and smooth the Sculptra for natural-looking results.

After the Sculptra Treatment

Expect some swelling, redness, bruising, tenderness, or numbness after the treatment. This typically lasts 2-4 days. You’re free to engage in regular activities immediately after the treatment; avoiding heavy workouts for the subsequent 24 hours is best. Apply ice packs as needed to reduce swelling and bruising. Avoid applying pressure directly on treatment sites. Massage the treated areas as directed, commonly five minutes, five times a day for five days, to help the product settle evenly.

Longevity of Sculptra Results

Initial swelling settles within days, so the face can look much as it did before. Visible change then builds over the following weeks as collagen forms, and the full result is judged at around three months. Additional touch-up and contouring treatments may be done after the initial session to achieve optimal augmentation and symmetry in facial features. On average, the effect of Sculptra augmentation lasts around two years.

The risk of granulomas may be reduced by injecting in a fanning pattern to better disperse the filler. Using the appropriate dilution and technique can help avoid this. Following the massage instructions also helps, and any new lump should be reported so it can be assessed.

Important Safety Information

Sculptra should not be used by people who are allergic to any of its ingredients, including poly-L-lactic acid, or who have a history of keloid formation or hypertrophic scarring. It should not be injected into an area with active skin infection or inflammation, and it is not used in the red part of the lips or around the eyes.
